Today I woke up to go to the Instituto de Higiene e Medicina Tropical next to the Egas Moniz Hospital (long way in public transports) to take the mandatory vaccines to go to India. When I get there I realize that are no mandatory vaccines but the Doctor starts to advice me a complex list of meds and vaccines. In the end he prescribed me 4 vaccines, 2 bug sprays (one for me, other for the bed bug protection), 2 things for diarrhea, 1 for fever, and other anti-insect thing… I already feel hypochondriac with so many things.
In one side I have two vaccines waiting for me (the others two only can be taken in the local medical center - hepatitis A - and the other - malaria - by pills during the first month in India), in the other side of the cell phone I have my mother and all the doctors of Hospital Amadora Sintra screaming “Don’t take that shit! Don’t put those things on your body!” but ohoh I already payed! So… I took for typhoid (+- 30 EUR) and for poliomyelitis (+- 11 EUR), which I already had taken as a child. Plus 53 EUR for medical service. I am giving you this useful information in case you are curious about it or if some day you decide to go to India. While we are at it, I think I wont take the hepatitis one. Hope nothing happens to me!!
Now the decision’s part… After the vaccines’ saga I came home and I signed the Acceptance Note (the paper that commits you with an internship) for Jodhpur, India. Now I am not so sure anymore because they are not giving the answers I need right now. It is so hard to know which is the best decision! None is… Me and my EP manager are beeing so stern with those guys ahah it’s exasperating and funny at the same time. They can’t get relaxed!!! So… let’s see if there aren’t any more changes.
These have been the worst days of the process… It is when you have to decide to which internship you want to go.
I have one safe offer to which I have to give a quick answer (I’ve been postponing that day but it has finally arrived) and then I have another company that is going to tell me by Friday if they want me or not (they proposed to reduce the number of weeks so that I could join them), by there I already said yes or no to the first one. I started to cancel interviews for others internships, which is a really complicated thing to do. And now I get this offer to be giving classes in a University in Kolkata.
There is a lot of things to balance… the type of work I’ll be doing, the number of weeks (what about my Master’s thesis?), the salary, what the host company provide, the efficiency of every AIESEC group (but they all have been really nice and careful), etc…
And the worst thing in the middle of all of this is that noone can help me to decide…
Everything seems great about the safe offer (giving culture lessons to kids in two different cities, dance and sing with them, have dance or yoga classes, eventually they can provide us this, being with more ten persons from all over the world) but I am a bit reticent because the salary is really really short and the cities don’t seem to be that awsome.
So… mais vale um pássaro na mão do que dois a voar? (a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush?)
Como já muitos sabem este tumblr vai funcionar como diário de uma grande aventura que espero estar prestes a começar! Na verdade, começou há um mês como podemos ver na síntese cronológica com que abri os posts!
Desde dia 2 (há dois dias e um dia depois dos meus CVs terem sido entregues) que comecei a receber respostas das sedes da AIESEC da Índia (sim, para quem ainda não sabe estou a candidatar-me para estágios profissionais na Índia). Em dois dias (e já começo a desesperar porque acho que deviam ser mais rápidos… estás maluca Carolina?) já fui contactada para 8 estágios, já se abriu conversa para se marcarem entrevistas, já fiz uma entrevista HOJE e tenho outra agendada para domingo!
Quero agradecer aos meus EP managers (Rita e Hugo - AIESEC NOVA Lisboa) que têm tido imensa paciência para a minha impaciência e têm sido super eficazes nos contactos com a AIESEC de lá!
Em relação à entrevista de hoje… não é para uma empresa para a qual tenha enviado curriculum, ou seja, não fez parte das minhas primeiras opções mas conforme o tempo foi passando (tem calma Carolina, 2 dias não é assim tanto tempo) fui-me informando mais sobre Delhi e sobre o tal estágio… e, de repente, o que me parecia uma opção extremamente excepcional por se tratar de uma cidade enorme, tornou-se a minha primeira opção! Vi o episódio de Portugueses Pelo Mundo em Delhi ontem à noite e conversei com a minha mãe sobre a experiência dela em Nova/Velha Delhi… Wow! Tanto de um país numa só cidade, para além disso é super “próximo” de vários locais que me interessam! Estaria no centro de tudo! Para além disto a proposta de estágio que me fizeram implica viajar para várias partes do Rajastão! É impossível pedir mais! Isto para dizer que, quem está à procura de estágio/voluntariado tem que ser flexível e estar disponível para perceber o lado bom de cada oferta.
Às 17.15h de cá (21.45h de lá) já estava em frente ao computador pronta para a entrevista! Correu bem! Gostei de conversar com a Noor Mam e pelos vistos ela adorou-me! No entanto, existe um senão. A duração mínima deste estágio são 6 meses, sendo que apenas posso estar 2 meses (e no caso de começar já este mês)… A Noor Mam disse que gostou muito de mim mas que ainda ia a ver o que podia fazer em relação a este problemazinho. Daqui a uma semana nova entrevista com direito a resposta final. Entretanto, à conversa com uma “yaar” (= dude/mate em hindi) indiana, soube que estavam a pensar seriamente em fazer um plano de estágio que se adaptasse a mim!!! Escusado será dizer que houve muita histeria naquela conversa de skype…
